The Pilliga Forest is one of eastern Australia’s last great inland forests and a place of sacred significance for the Gomeroi people.
This place provides an important water source for the Great Artesian Basin and is home to threatened species like the Koala, Regent Honeyeater, and Glossy Black-Cockatoo.
But the NSW Labor Government is allowing Santos to push ahead with the destructive Narrabri Gas Project, threatening this forest, its wildlife, water, and cultural heritage.
In a devastating move, the Native Title Tribunal has extinguished the land rights of the Gomeroi People so Santos can drill up to 850 coal seam gas wells in the heart of their Country.
For over a decade, the Gomeroi People, scientists, unions, farmers, and communities have opposed this project. More than 23,000 submissions were made against it, yet the government has ignored public opposition, climate science, and the voices of Traditional Owners.
We don’t have to accept this. We can protect the Pilliga, safeguard the Great Artesian Basin, and build a future powered by clean, community-owned energy.
We call on the Minns Government to revoke all approvals for the Narrabri Gas Project and ban all new coal seam gas projects, uphold Gomeroi land rights, and protect the Pilliga Forest and the Great Artesian Basin.
Sign now to defend endangered wildlife, First Nations rights, and our climate.
The Greens will:
- Stop the gas project: Revoke all approvals and ban new coal seam gas developments.
- Protect First Nations land: Uphold Gomeroi rights and safeguard sacred Country.
- Defend the environment: Preserve the Pilliga Forest and protect water sources like the Great Artesian Basin.
