Hi, I'm Dave!
I'm a nurse, a musician and a surfer who fell in love with the East Coast – and I'm running as your Greens candidate for Break O'Day Council.
I've been a Registered Nurse since 1990, and I look back on a life of satisfaction and fulfilment because I spent my time at work caring for others. In 2010 I found myself back in the rental market as a single father with two young kids, and I've been a renter ever since. So I took action – joining the Sydney Alliance housing campaign team, and working with the Tenants' Union of NSW to get my story published in mainstream media. I'm proud to say I was part of the movement that saw no grounds evictions banned in NSW in 2022.
Environmental sustainability and social justice go hand in hand. We cannot look after our people if we do not look after our earth. Everyone wants to avoid pollution and environmental degradation – we just need to spread the word on how we can build our economy on green principles rather than short-term self-interest.
I moved to Fingal in January 2025 and decided to run for council after falling in love with this place and the people who live here. I sing and play guitar every week with the With One Voice Break O'Day Community Choir, I'm a member of Break O'Day Regional Arts, and I'm also a surfer and a member of Surfing Tasmania – the surfing community here is welcoming and relaxed, and the beaches and waves are beautiful.
This election I'm focused on the balance between environmental protection and economic development. I want to protect the natural beauty of this area and encourage scenic protection over development. Having rented for the last fifteen years, I also want council doing more to help renters and enable community-led planning for more affordable housing.
