The Labor Government has introduced their “environment” laws, but here’s the catch: these laws don’t protect the environment.
They protect the profits of big business, miners and loggers.
When BHP, Chevron and the Minerals Council are begging for new “environment” laws to be rammed through Parliament, you know it’s bad news for nature.
This package is riddled with loopholes, carve-outs, fast tracks and weasel words that put mining profits ahead of environmental protection. Mining and logging companies have had their grubby fingers all over it.
Our environmental laws should protect our wild places. Our forests. Our koalas. Our climate.
Not fast-track their destruction.
The time for true environmental protection is now. The Environment Minister’s job is to protect the environment, not make approvals cheaper and easier for corporations.
Labor’s laws don’t even include essential climate protections, like a climate trigger, while allowing coal and gas projects to be fast tracked.
The Greens are fighting for stronger protections that put nature first, but we can’t do it alone.
It’s time to demand real environmental protection laws that protect our forests, wildlife and climate - not the profits of big business.
Together, we can fight for laws that truly protect nature.
