At National Conference in June 2026, the Australian Greens agreed by consensus to a new by-law 26, which establishes an Arbitration and Conciliation Committee (ACC). You can read the bylaw here.
It sets out the processes of the Australian Greens when dealing with disputes or complaints about Individual Members of the Australian Greens (including the Australian Greens Office Bearers) for conduct which arises in the performance of a role under the Australian Greens constitution and associated documents, or in the dealings of that member with the Australian Greens. It is important to note that the ACC only has jurisdiction over conduct in Australian Greens spaces (for example, in national meetings or on national e-lists), and not in relation to conduct at a Member Body level which would be dealt with by that Member Body. Members of the ACC are normally to be appointed by National Council after the Annual National Conference (usually held in November) for a two-year term. Given the ACC has been established several months prior to the upcoming Annual National Conference, we are seeking Expressions of Interest to fill the ACC in an interim capacity until after our National Conference in November. Those to be appointed as interim members on the ACC are encouraged to re-apply for a permanent position per the process set out in the by-law.
The ACC is a nine-member Committee, with members to be drawn from at least five Member Bodies. At least four ACC members must be women, at least two members must be people of colour and consideration will be given to the promotion of people from marginalised backgrounds. Members must have a good knowledge of Australian Greens’ processes and culture, and must not be members of National Council.
